On Saturday we woke up too late to take the planned hike in Nagarjun national forrest located just outside of Kathmandu. But we headed in that direction anyway, and on our way met two young guys (about 24) who decided to accompany us. The were both really nice and had fair English, so we spent a few hours with them and got to learn a lot about daily life in the city and Nepal in general. They were also eager to know about our lives and the conflict in Israel of course.
They took us to a Buddhist den - set up in a cave that apparently goes all the way through the mountain (we did not venture in too deep). We took a walk overlooking the valley in the picture above and then through a village on the outskirts of Kathmandu, where we had our first view of non-urban life here. It was very beautiful and a great break from the tourist center here in Thamel - a neighborhood of the city.
Today we took our own little walking tour past some temples and stuppas, as well as the bustling market place of Ason Square.
For the next three weeks there will be no new entries in our blog, since we will be trekking on the Annapurna Circuit, aka “Around Annapurna”. After the trek we will post pictures and write again from the town of Pokhara.
